Gluten Free in the Upper Midwest

Speakeasy (Detroit Lakes) August 23, 2010

I was in lake country this weekend, and went to check out the Speakeasy restaurant in Detroit Lakes. I’d heard that they have a really good gluten-free menu with lots of specialty options.

the page-long menu started with baked wings. they had a stir-fry dish made with wild rice. there were also several pasta options (penne with 3 sauce options, as well as a baked pasta dish). they had sandwiches and burgers (with gluten-free bread/buns), and even gluten-free pizzas!

for sides, the ones I remember were salads (with warm gluten-free buns!) and several potato options (I couldn’t get enough of the hash browns!!)

they also did brunch~ there was no specific gluten-free menu for that. but they could easily make omelets or other egg dishes, which could be accompanied with the hash browns, some fresh fruit, etc. they’ll help you come up with something tasty!

there were plenty of fun options, the staff was really knowledgeable, and the food tasted great! not to mention that the prices were really reasonable!! I was really thankful to have somewhere great to eat while I was at the lake~ so if you’re in the area, make sure to check it out!
