Gluten Free in the Upper Midwest

Aperitif September 7, 2010

I had the chance to go to Aperitif in Woodbury this past weekend. it’s a nice new restaurant by the new Sheraton on 694 & Tamarack. one of the first things that I noticed was a beautiful patio area, complete with a fireplace and outdoor bar.

they don’t have a specific gluten-free menu, but they had plenty of GF options, nonetheless. the waiter rattled off several dishes that were gluten-free, but I asked for a chef to come speak to us directly, rather than making the waiter run back and forth with questions. the chef was very accommodating. most of the things could be adapted to gluten-free, if they weren’t already. and as for the sides, if there was anything I needed or wanted to switch out, it was no problem. in fact, they even made me a special potato item that wasn’t on the menu.

as for what the dishes are, they offer a variety of proteins, including steaks, pork chops, lamb, rotisserie chicken, shrimp, and various fish options. so there were a ton of options. several of the appetizers and salads were also gluten-free, or could be adapted as such.

the restaurant is on the more elegant side, so it’s a bit more costly than the usual chain-restaurant fare. but for a special evening out, it could be a good option. the food was tasty, the atmosphere was great, and they were very accommodating.
